About Neurodelphus

Welcome!

This website functions as both (a) a blog platform to share: resources I have found helpful, reflections, stories, and ideas, and, (b) a holding location to reserve the Neurodelphus web domain should it come into fruition in a company (B Corps or LLC) or non-profit.

The dream of Neurodelphus has two parts that are interlinked: to literally restore neural substrate in order to restore function in children and adults with neurological disease and injury, and to build novel computational systems that combines the best aspects of synthetic computers with the best aspects of living brains in a manner that significantly outperforms the best managed teams of the most talented humans using the most advanced computer/AI tools.

My understanding of what George Church said of the Colossus project resonates here: yes, creating a living mammoth-like creature is a high bar aspirational goal, but even small steps along that path mark major advances in synthetic biology that could have major benefits along the way. Likewise, while the Neurodelphus dream might culminate in the creation of a novel being or class of beings- the Tikkun Olam Boddhisatva  Supercompassionate Superintelligence, intrinsically aligned with the wellbeing of all sentient beings- steps along the way could allow us to both help people living with disease and injury, and new kinds of computational system that interweave novel aspects of complex, 3D neural architecture with AI/ML and other human-made technologies.

About Me

My name is Mijail Demian Serruya, I am a physician-scientist currently living in Philadelphia. I was born and raised in the Philadelphia area, and earned my undergraduate, medical, and neuroscience graduate degrees at Brown University. I did my doctoral work in the laboratory of John P. Donoghue, PhD. I completed a residency in neurology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, with pediatric rotations at CHOP, and joined the faculty at Jefferson Thomas University. I currently direct the Raphael Center for Neurorestoration. My amazing wife runs Voyage Healing.

If you want to relay a non-urgent message to me, please send an email to mdserruya @ gmail.com and make sure to include the word 'neurodelphus' in the subject header. Thank you for visiting, may you be at ease.
